State Supreme Court upholds tobacco fee

The State Supreme Court today ruled in favor of the state in the tobacco fee case. Tobacco companies challenged the fee in court on the grounds that it violated its tobacco settlement. The Attorney General's office arguing on behalf of the state argued that this settlement did not preclude the legislature from taking action such as additional taxes or fees. The Court agreed with the state stating that the soverignty of the state must be held in tact.
