Controversy erupts over Operation: Able Danger

Congressman Kurt Weldon (R-PA) sent a letter to the 9/11 commission protesting their suggestion that they were never made aware of Operation: Able Danger, a military intillegence operation that was tracking the 9/11 hijackers namely Mohammed Atta before 9/11. The Congressman stated the 9/11 commission staff were briefed about this operation but did not investigate it further. The commission had claimed that they were not made aware of this operation until after the final report was released. The commission is now looking back into the national archives to determine what they were told at those meetings. It is not known at the time whether the military knew what plans the hijackers may have had.
