Pentagon: Iraq war did not hinder response to relief effort

The Pentagon defended the National Guard stating that the war in Iraq did not hinder the response of the National Guard. The federal government has an agreement with the governors that they will have no less than 50% of their National Guard in case of emergency or disaster. Many states have mobilized some of their National Guard units to assist the Gulf Coast states.
