Congressional Black Caucus say federal aid slow because victims are poor

The Congressional Black Caucus today held a press conference expressing their outrage over the slow response by the federal government to the Gulf Coast. They charged that the reason why the response was so slow was that it was for the poor people. They stated that upper and middle income people were able to leave if they choose to do so ahead of the storm. The poor people did not have transportation, money for a hotel or family or friends else where to go to. They fell short of saying that it was because of race.
Louisiana and Mississippi have some of the poorest people in the country. They also have a history of corruption.
